Response to our charming 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom townhomes and garden-style apartment homes has been undeniably incredible! Our first phase is nearly completely leased up. The great news is that if you missed your chance to move into Columbia Parc this year, more brand new, top-of-the-line residences will be completed in early 2011.

Summer Youth Program Internship

Columbia Parc at the Bayou District and Kingsley House had the pleasure of hosting three part-time interns from the Housing Authority of New Orleans’ Summer Youth Program. Throughout the 8-week program, the interns, who are also current residents, completed rotations through Management, Maintenance, and Social Services.

While in our leasing office, they assisted with administrative tasks, greeting guests and callers, and giving property tours. They also learned all about Fair Housing and passed the training course (offered by Grace Hill) with great scores.

Working with maintenance, they developed a greater appreciation for what it takes to keep our community spotless.

Their days at Kingsley House were spent assisting with light office work and learning about the programs and services that KH provides to Columbia Parc residents.

Another part of this program was attending weekly mentoring sessions at Dillard University as well as completing a report based on a reading assignment.

We were happy to provide our interns with some real-world experience and look forward to participating again next year. Great job and good luck!

Bayou District Neighborhood News Building Blocks: Early Learning Center planned for the Bayou District
National research is persuasive regarding the need for greater emphasis on high quality public education in the pre-school years. For that reason, the Bayou District Foundation is advancing partnerships towards an aggressive plan to bring the nation’s finest program to our neighborhood. The Foundation is scheduled to begin construction this fall on a brand new early learning facility for approximately 150 children ages 0-5. This early learning facility will use an evidence based model to provide a solid educational foundation for our community’s kids, preparing them for future academic success and achievement. Great education resources like this are the center of the Bayou District Foundation's holistic neighborhood revitalization mission.
