e-newsletter | 2011 | Issue 8 COLUMBIA PARC AFTER SCHOOL GENTILLY FEST  NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS COLUMBIA PARC AFTER SCHOOL CapitalOne Bank and the East Jefferson Family YMCA have partnered with Columbia Parc to offer a low-cost after school program. The program is available Monday-Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm for students in kindergarten – 8th grade. Activities include youth sports, computer lab, tutoring, martial arts, gymnastics, and more. A healthy daily snack will also be provided. There is a limited number of spaces. Registration will be at the Columbia Parc clubhouse from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on September 1st and 2nd. Click here to view or download the flyer. GENTILLY FEST Free to the public, the 2011 Gentilly Fest will be held the first weekend of October at the Pontchartrain Park Playground. Celebrations of all things "Gentilly" include continuous live music on the main stage and gospel tent, scrumptious food from local restaurants and caterers, and fine arts and crafts for sale. There will also be activities for children, including pony rides, a bounce house, and face painting, plus a pottery demo on Saturday, 10/1, and a rock climbing wall on Sunday, 10/2. Bayou District Foundation is a 501(c)3 non profit organization dedicated to the healthy revitalization and sustainability of the Bayou District and surrounding neighborhoods through quality education, housing and recreation opportunities. In partnership with LSU Public Health, the Bayou District Foundation helped select 10 seventh and eighth graders from Columbia Parc and Nelson Charter School to attend the World Leadership Conference in Atlanta, sponsored by Usher’s New Look Foundation. The children joined 500 other young leaders from around the world to attend seminars and learn how they can make an impact on their community. All of the kids had a terrific time and are looking forward to sharing all of the great ideas they learned in Atlanta!
